The Life Train

Apparently, now I'm elderly
I just never saw it coming
so engrossed in daily life
the train of life was chugging

It started off quite smoothly
the tracks were sleek and fast
life was on the bullet train
but now those days have passed

I'm now more up for steam trains
a nostalgic slower pace
comfort, ease and leisure time
I’ve reached my happy place

It's funny when your plodding
you see things far more clearly
you appreciate the good things
It's the little things that please me

The carriages grow empty
as people come and go
I now prefer the quiet life
I’ve reached my status quo

My journey is nearing the terminus
I'm now on the final leg
comfort solace and luxury
on the beautiful Orient Express

But, I’m not disembarking just yet
the grandkids won't let me rest
we're back in the land of madness
on the Christmas Polar Express
